It was billed as a celebration of an African cultural renaissance; three weeks of music, exhibitions, films, contemporary art and fashion in Dakar, Senegal.

But for the painters and sculptors exhibited at December’s World Festival of Black Arts, the smiles have faded.

A dispute between the organisers and the art shipping company means over 400 works of art are languishing in a warehouse, still not returned to their owners. Africa editor William Wallis explains.
