Gordon Brown resigned as British prime minister once it became clear that the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats were willing to form a coalition government with a workable majority. Brown had previously confirmed he would be stepping down as Labour leader in a statement outside Number 10. We take a look back at his political career, from student politics to prime minister.
