The FT European house price guide (updated with Q2 2009 figures) provides an overview over house price movements across Europe, identifying former hot-spots that have turned cold and visualising how in some countries the pace of activity never really warmed up. The interactive feature presents current developments in the context of the trends of the past forty years, where the figures are available.
In addition, Financial Times has launched the FT Eurozone and FT European house price indices which track prices of new and second hand houses and apartments across Europe. (Read more on how the data were compiled.)
In contrast to the situation in many European countries, the UK has a number of house price measures, some more robust than others. The FT has produced its own measure, to provide a benchmark, using Land Registry actual sale prices, covering all personal transactions (not just those bought using loans from particular lenders) and compiled by consultancy Acadametrics. (View latest data.) For more information about the UK housing market visit our in-depth feature on UK house prices.
