Youth unemployment has grown rapidly across the developed world since the onset of the economic crisis in early 2008.

This chart looks at the magnitude of youth unemployment across the OECD on two key measures. First, the youth unemployment rate as a percentage of the labour force in the 15 to 24 age group, and secondly the percentage of young people not in employment, education or training (Neets) for the same age group in the whole population.

The two measures show a slightly different picture, which is mainly due to the unemployment rate measure discounting young people involved in education or training as they are not considered part of the labour force.
