Leading contenders for the IMF top job

Dominique Strauss-Kahn resigned as managing director of the International Monetary Fund late on Wednesday after he was charged earlier this week with sexual assault. Mr Strauss-Kahn denies the charges.

“I want to protect this institution which I have served with honour and devotion, and especially – especially – I want to devote all my strength, all my time, and all my energy to proving my innocence,” he said, in a letter of resignation to the IMF’s board that was posted on the fund’s website.
