The City of London’s skyline is being transformed as construction recommences on several landmark skyscrapers which had been mothballed during the recession, and other major developments - such as Land Securities’ One New Change shopping centre - reach completion.

In October, a joint venture between Land Securities and Canary Wharf Group, announced plans build the Walkie Talkie building and British Land, working with Oxford Properties, committed to restart work on the Cheesegrater building.

The risky ventures will each add around 600,000 sq ft of office space to the Square Mile, and are seen as a vote of confidence in London’s recovery.

Even excluding these two distinctive skyscrapers, cranes have begun reappearing in the City. Some 4 million sq ft of new office space has been completed in the past year or is currently under construction in the Square Mile, according to Drivers Jonas Deloitte.
