As a declaration of intent, NYSE’s 400,000 square foot data centre in Mahwah, northern New Jersey is massive.

The site has been under construction since the spring of 2008 and will be fully operational by the summer of 2010. The building is three football fields long and one and a half times wide. The two-storey complex consists of enough steel and concrete for a 40-storey building and will contain 150 miles of copper wiring and 70 miles of underground piping. Once the centre is completed in 2010, it will employ around 50 people, most of whom are security guards.
